With the rainy season nearing in South Sudan, a powerful story of resilience and transformation is taking root. In Witto Payam, Mundri East County of Western Equatoria State, a group of determined women are not simply preparing for the rains they are preparing to reshape their future.

Bound by a common vision, they are harnessing the power of agriculture to strengthen food security and generate income, sowing hope for their households and communities alike.

In a region where patriarchal norms often limit women’s ability to make decisions or invest in farming, this grassroots effort marks a significant step toward economic empowerment.

Women have long played a vital role in agricultural production and the broader economy of Mundri East, yet their contributions are frequently overlooked or undervalued.

To break through these barriers, the women’s group is actively planning for the upcoming farming season.

With hope in their hearts and hands ready to work, they have committed to scaling up their production by focusing on commercially viable crops such as groundnuts, cassava, avocado, and lemon.

These crops have the potential not only to feed their families but also to generate income through local markets.

Each member in the women group made a promise that each of their household would cultivate an average a farm size of 2 feddans which is (one hectare).

Their collective spirit and vision are not only inspiring but also essential for building resilience in rural communities facing economic and environmental challenges.

Despite limited access to resources and ongoing gender-based challenges, the women of Witto Payam are refusing to be held back.

Their initiative stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when women are empowered to lead. As support for this movement grows, it’s clear that these women are planting more than just seeds they’re sowing the future of Mundri East County.
