South Sudanese basketball sensation Khaman Maluach has officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, scheduled for June 25–26, marking a significant milestone in the young star’s journey from conflict-torn roots to global recognition.

Standing at an imposing 7-foot-2, the 18-year-old center has emerged as one of the most promising talents out of Africa. A product of the NBA Academy Africa, Maluach has impressed scouts and fans alike with his elite athleticism, court vision, and poise well beyond his years.

His breakout moment came during the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where he played a key role in South Sudan’s historic debut. His performances on the international stage solidified his reputation as a top-tier prospect and drew attention from NBA franchises and analysts worldwide.

Maluach’s rise, however, is about more than just basketball. Born in a region long impacted by conflict, his journey symbolizes resilience, ambition, and the unifying power of sport. He now stands as a beacon of hope for a new generation of South Sudanese youth aiming to transcend adversity through talent and determination.

If selected, Khaman would become one of the youngest African-born players to make the leap directly to the NBA from the continent, following in the footsteps of South Sudanese legends like Manute Bol and Luol Deng, both of whom blazed trails for African athletes on the world stage.

“As June approaches, Khaman represents the dreams of a nation,” said a spokesperson from the South Sudan Basketball Federation. “His journey reminds us all of what is possible.”

The basketball world will be watching closely as draft day nears. For Khaman Maluach, the next chapter is just beginning, and South Sudan is proudly behind him.
