
The Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) Edmund Yakani has condemned the recent attacks in Abyei Administrative Area that left eight people dead.
The activist call followed a fresh attack on the residents of Abyei which was alleged to have been carried out by the armed Misseriya youth.
At least eight people were killed in Abyei Administrative Area during a Saturday’s fresh attack by suspected armed Misseriya youth in Noong village, according to the area Minister of Information.
Beside call for dialogue among the communities of Misseriya and the Ngok Dinka in Abyei, Yakani condemned the use of violent during misunderstanding.
“The recent attack in Abyei is something we condemned, we are disappointed; we are discouraged and i would like to appeal to both communities Misseriya and Ngok Dinka that any differences should be resolve in non violent manner” he said.
He appealed to the communities residing in Abyei to come to Table of dialogue adding that the previous experience series of dialogue and peaceful co-existence.
“In the middle we saw a reduction in violent between the communities and recently we saw agreement between the communities which is the best way for handling differences or Misunderstanding” he said.
He urged the communities to dialogue and ensure that their differences being over resources could not lead to lost of lives but be handle in a peaceful way.
Activist Yakani called The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) to double efforts in protection of civilians in the area as stated in their mandates.
“I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to UNISFA to play their role effectively in providing protection to civilians in Abyei Administrative Area” he said
He acknowledges the efforts played by the UN forces and urge them to ensure that residents are protect during conflict.
Yakani called on the communities from the Sisterly countries of South Sudan and Sudan to live peacefully.
“Our appeal as sons and daughters of South Sudan and Sudan we need to live peacefully and we need to leave in a peaceful co-existence” he said
The activist called on both Juba and Khartoum government to work as a team in ensuring safety of both communities leaving Abyei.
“May appeal is also is that the government in Juba should ensure safety of sons and Daughters of Abyei as Priority as equal as the leadership in Sudan to ensure that safety of our sons or brothers whether being Ngok Dinka or Misseriya in Abyei is a priority so both Juba and Khartoum have to ensure safety of citizens who are leaving in Abyei Administrative Area” he said
He added that there is a need to investigate the those behind the attacks and ensure that the are held accountable.
