President Salva Kiir Mayardit has relieved and appointed key officials across various ministries in a decisive move to reshape South Sudan’s governance.

These strategic changes reflect the administration’s ongoing efforts to streamline leadership and enhance efficiency in government operations.

Among the relieved officials is Gabriel Changson Chang, who previously served as Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, alongside Madut Biar Yel, former Minister of Transport.

Their departure paved the way for new leadership, as Madut Biar Yel transitioned into the role of Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, while Dr. Lam Akol Ajarwin stepped in as Minister of Transport.

Dr. Lam Akol’s appointment marks a significant return to government after being out of the system for several years. His extensive academic background and political experience bring a renewed perspective to the transport ministry, potentially guiding crucial reforms in infrastructure development.

Additionally, Mr. Kuol Deng, who served as Undersecretary in the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, was relieved of his position.

At the National Security Services, General Intelligence Bureau, Lt. Gen. Gregory Deng Kuac was removed from his role as Deputy Director General, only to be appointed as the Undersecretary of Defence and Veteran Affairs within the Ministry of Defence.

These changes signal a recalibration of leadership, positioning officials in roles that align with national priorities.

As South Sudan moves forward with this transition, citizens await the impact of these newly appointed leaders and their influence on the country’s governance, particularly as the nation navigates the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.
