Apuk Youth Union in Juba has called on the government to probe the deadly attack on the cattle camp in Gogrial East County, which resulted in the deaths of 22 people, including five girls.

In a statement signed by the Youth leader Agany Geng Ayiei, the attackers allegedly committed acts of wanton destruction of property, displacement of the population, and the killing of innocent people.

“As chairperson of the Apuk Youth Union in Juba, and on behalf of its entire leadership and membership, I unequivocally denounced these barbaric actions and call upon the government at all levels to take immediate and decisive action,” Ayiel stated

The youth leader further alleged that the attack was carried out by armed youths from Mayom County of Unity State, urging both governments to swiftly apprehend those responsible and hold them accountable.

“We urge the government of Unity and Warrap states, in collaboration with the national government, to launch a thorough and impartial investigation into those attacks and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted under the law.”

He called for the total disarmament of the armed youth in both states, highlighting the need for the South Sudan people’s defense forces to intensify their efforts in quelling tension in the two states.

On Tuesday, unknown attackers raided a cattle camp in Raing Mabior village, Mangol payam, Gogrial East County, killing 22 people and leaving several other wounded.

Mangol Payam administrator, Achuil Machar, told the press on Tuesday that the raiders had fled with a huge number of cattle.
