
Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai briefed President Salva Kiir following his recent peace tour to Unity State, where he also attended the centenary celebration of the Catholic Church in the region.
During the meeting, Vice President Taban highlighted his extensive tour across the state, engaging directly with local communities in multiple stopovers.
He emphasized the significance of peace and stability, reaffirming President Kiir’s commitment that South Sudan will never return to war.
He further underscored the government’s dedication to fostering peace and development across the country, commending the growing enrollment of children in schools nationwide, and expressing gratitude to parents for their pivotal role in promoting education.
“The peace message was well-received by the people of Unity State, who expressed their strong support for continued efforts toward lasting stability,” he stated, stressing the urgent need to enhance road infrastructure to improve connectivity and spur economic growth.
A key highlight of the briefing was the successful operation of the Mini Oil Refinery in Unity State, which is expected to yield substantial benefits for the communities of Unity, Warrap, Ruweng, and surrounding areas.
Monday’s the meeting was attended by top government officials, including Vice President and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, and Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro.
South Sudan’s oil sector is anticipated to provide significant employment opportunities for nationals, with the government emphasizing the importance of capacity building in the industry.
Efforts are ongoing to increase the number of South Sudanese professionals employed by oil companies operating in the country.
