“We’re proud of how far the team has come, but we also recognize the demands of regional football,” Yei Joint Stars president Eng. Lemi William said.
Eng. William made the announcement on Tuesday at a press conference held in Juba, which also served as the launchpad for the Yei Joint Star Football Club Sports Gala
“Our goal is to build a stronger, more competitive team that can hold its own against some of the best in regional football,” he added.
This renewed focus comes as more South Sudanese clubs turn their attention toward regional exposure. With neighboring leagues growing increasingly competitive, Yei Joint Stars recognize the need to not only maintain domestic consistency but also match the physicality and tactical demands of inter-club competitions across East Africa.
He stressed the club has the potential to grow into one of the continent’s respected names, but it starts with serious investment in players, facilities, and mentality.
The Sports Gala, which will take place at Bulluk Playground and Juba National Stadium, is set to bring together hundreds of participants and spectators from across the region.
Organized under the theme of inclusion and reconciliation, the Gala aims to harness the power of sport particularly women’s football to build bridges and foster meaningful engagement among youth and professionals alike.
The festivities will officially kick off on Friday, June 6 at 8:00 AM at Bulluk Playground, beginning with an opening ceremony featuring official speeches, traditional dances, exhibitions, and live performances from South Sudanese artists and comedians.
These cultural elements are designed to raise awareness about how clubs can get funds as well as celebrate national identity while creating a welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.
One of the day’s highlights will be the Corporate Football League, a friendly tournament featuring teams from SSRA, banks, NGOs, and other professional bodies.
This initiative serves not only as entertainment but as a symbol of collaboration and unity across different sectors of society.
The Gala will culminate on Sunday, June 8 with a highly anticipated international women’s friendly at Juba National Stadium, where Yei Joint Star FC will face off against Kampala Queens of Uganda.
This tent fixture is expected to draw widespread attention as it showcases top-tier women’s football talent and emphasizes the Gala’s commitment to gender inclusion in sport.
