Two key departments, a radiology unit and a neonatal intensive care unit, have officially opened at Bor Hospital in Jonglei State, offering new hope for improved diagnostics and infant care in the region.

During the inauguration, Jonglei State Minister of Health, Lual Monyluak Dau, called on hospital administrators and staff to prioritize the maintenance of all hospital facilities and equipment, stressing that proper upkeep is essential to strengthening the state’s health system.

“We must take care of these X-ray and neonatal equipment to ensure they continue serving our people.”

The development was made possible through a partnership between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), UNICEF, South Sudan’s Ministry of Health, and the humanitarian group Tearfund, an initiative aimed at expanding diagnostic services and reducing newborn mortality in Jonglei.

The Health Minister praised the partners for their continued support and urged local health officials to promptly report technical faults to avoid deterioration of the new infrastructure.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare services, noting that the governor remains dedicated to fulfilling his health-related pledges to the people of Jonglei.

South Sudan’s health sector entirely relies on international partners’ support, who, sometimes, find it difficult to deliver the much-needed lifesaving services to the remote parts of the country due to insecurity.
