Youth minister calls on students to promote harmony and cultural diversity

South Sudan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mary Nawai Martin, has urged South Sudanese students in Uganda to embrace unity, harmony, and cultural diversity as pillars of nation-building, while preserving a shared sense of identity.

Speaking during the South Sudanese Students’ Cultural Gala held in Kampala, the minister encouraged the youth to use their cultural expressions as a bridge to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among different communities.

The event, organized by student leaders, brought together dozens of South Sudanese students pursuing studies in Uganda to celebrate and showcase their cultural heritage.

“You are the future leaders of our country. Promote social coexistence among yourselves, and let your cultural expressions reflect unity and harmony,” Nawai said in remarks shared on the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ official Facebook page.

She also emphasized the importance of academic focus, describing education as a key driver of both personal progress and national transformation.

“Success requires commitment, dedication, and perseverance. Education is the strongest foundation for building your future and contributing to the development of South Sudan,” the minister added.

The cultural gala featured traditional dances, poetry recitals, and artistic exhibitions representing the rich diversity of South Sudan’s ethnic communities.

Organizers said the celebration aimed to foster stronger ties among students in the diaspora and highlight the country’s cultural heritage as a source of national pride and unity.
