The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has reaffirmed South Sudan’s growing diplomatic presence across the region and beyond, following a series of high-level engagements throughout October 2025.
In its latest media briefing, the Ministry highlighted activities led by President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is currently on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates to strengthen bilateral ties, attract investment, and promote South Sudan’s economic potential.
Earlier this month, the President met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix to discuss cooperation with UNMISS and ongoing peacekeeping priorities.
Foreign Affairs Minister Monday Semaya K. Kumba spearheaded multiple diplomatic engagements with representatives from South Africa, India, Cuba, Norway, Türkiye, China, and Japan, focusing on economic diplomacy, regional peace, and multilateral cooperation.
The Minister also co-chaired a High-Level Forum with UNMISS on contingency planning and met Norwegian Special Envoy Endre Stiansen to review progress in the peace process.
Regionally, Minister Monday visited Sudan for talks with senior government officials on trade, energy, border management, and the protection of citizens.
The Ministry also confirmed South Sudan’s ratification of membership in the Africa Minerals Strategy Group, positioning the country for greater participation in continental resource and investment initiatives.
Deputy Minister Akuei Bona Malwal led efforts on regional security and peacebuilding, joining consultations in Ethiopia as part of the National Committee for the Final Status of Abyei.
The delegation met with UN Special Envoy Guang Cong and Ethiopian officials to brief them on the situation in Abyei.
Undersecretary Agnes Oswaha represented South Sudan at the 5th Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development in Egypt, where she engaged in discussions on governance, resilience, and regional stability.
She also oversaw the launch of an International Humanitarian Law training program in Juba in partnership with the ICRC and the Red Cross.
The Ministry said its October activities reflected South Sudan’s commitment to strengthening peace and security, advancing economic diplomacy, and deepening cooperation with international and regional partners.
“The Ministry remains focused on expanding South Sudan’s diplomatic footprint to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development,” the statement concluded.
