The Tonj South County authority reportedly recovered 164 cattle that were raided during inter-communal clashes between the Apuk-Juwiir and Thony communities on February 3, 2025.
County Commissioner Col. John Ayitiak Warwien confirmed the recovery, saying he personally supervised the handover of the animals in Wanh-alel Payam.
He reaffirmed his administration’s strong stance against cattle raiding and commitment to restoring peace and the rule of law in the county.
Authorities reported that over 50 herds were retrieved in the latest operation, including cattle traced to Mathew Akeen Dhieu, father of Dut Magetto.
The recovery exercise remains ongoing, with the government urging residents to cooperate with the Livestock Recovery Committee to ensure all stolen cattle are returned and stability fully restored.
In a related incident, Tonj South County security forces arrested two suspects linked to a recent cattle theft in the Manyiel Agei cattle camp of the Apuk-Juwiir community.
The duo reportedly stole two cows, one of which later returned to the camp on its own before the culprits were apprehended.
The County Authority has since warned local youth against engaging in livestock theft, urging them to embrace self-reliance as a sustainable path to livelihood.
