The South Sudan Republican Athletics Championship resumes tomorrow, Saturday, in Juba, with eight local athletics federations expected to compete in the fourth edition of the annual event.
Speaking to the media on Friday after meeting with the organizing committee, Majok Ayii, President of the South Sudan Athletics Federation (SSAF), confirmed that preparations are complete and all participating teams have already arrived in the capital.
Ayii said the two-day championship, running from November 14 to 15, will award trophies, individual medals, and performance prizes to the best-performing athletes.
He urged athletics fans across Juba to turn out in large numbers to support local talent, describing the event as one of the country’s major sporting gatherings aimed at promoting and identifying emerging athletes while strengthening unity within the sports community.
Ayii also encouraged federations to showcase their abilities, adding that top performers could earn opportunities to represent South Sudan at international competitions.
SSAF head coach Joseph Ramadan William said athletes are well prepared and ready to fully participate in the championship.
This year’s competition features a full lineup of events, ranging from explosive sprints to powerful field disciplines. Track events include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m, along with hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, and relay races.
