Kiir says prayer, integrity key to overcoming South Sudan’s challenges

President Salva Kiir has called on South Sudanese to seek divine guidance, renew their commitment to peace, and uphold unity as the country navigates ongoing political, economic, and social challenges.

Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast held at the Presidency on Saturday, President Kiir emphasized that the gathering was not a political event, but a spiritual moment for reflection and collective renewal aimed at shaping a better future for the nation.

“The National Prayer Breakfast is about seeking God’s guidance for our country,” the President said, noting that faith and moral values remain central to national healing and progress.

President Kiir urged citizens from all walks of life, as well as religious leaders from diverse faith backgrounds, to remain steadfast advocates for peace, stressing that unity must transcend political, ethnic, and religious differences.

Recalling South Sudan’s long struggle for independence, President Kiir said the nation’s freedom was achieved through great sacrifice, resilience, and fervent prayer.

He encouraged South Sudanese to revisit these principles as the country works to overcome its current challenges.

The Head of State also issued a strong appeal to those in positions of authority, calling on public officials and leaders at all levels to serve with honesty, humility, and accountability, and to place the interests of the nation above personal or political gain.

In addition, President Kiir called upon religious and political leaders to provide moral guidance and wisdom, saying their leadership is critical in fostering reconciliation, peace, and national unity.

President Kiir declared that the National Prayer Breakfast will be observed annually on December 20, institutionalizing the event as a national platform for spiritual reflection and unity.

The President concluded by urging all South Sudanese to remain hopeful and committed to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation, guided by faith, integrity, and shared responsibility.
