President Salva Kiir Mayardit has quietly implemented changes within the leadership of South Sudan’s Military Intelligence, reshuffling top positions without public ceremony or extensive official commentary.
According to a presidential decree, Lt. Gen. David Ohucholi has been relieved of his duties as Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI).
He has been replaced by Lt. Gen. Abud Stephen Thiongkol Ijong, who resumes the role with immediate effect.
Lt. Gen. Abud previously served as CMI, making his return a familiar move within the security establishment.
The leadership adjustment comes amid ongoing security and political developments in the country, where intelligence coordination remains a key pillar of national stability.
While the presidency did not provide reasons for the changes, such reshuffles are commonly aimed at strengthening command efficiency and internal coordination within the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF).
The silent nature of the change suggests a calculated approach by the president, signaling continuity rather than disruption within the military intelligence structure.
In separate but related decrees, President Kiir has also made changes within the civil service.
Madhieu Achuil Mawien was dismissed from his position as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Dams, with Macham Macham Angui appointed as his replacement.
Additionally, Lam Tungwar has been appointed as the new Undersecretary in the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. He replaces Achier John Manyuat, who has been relieved of his duties.
