Experts inspect Juba Stadium pitch ahead of FIFA decision

Juba National Stadium has entered a decisive stage in its quest for FIFA certification, with technical experts beginning a detailed inspection of the stadium’s artificial turf.

The assessment is focused on determining whether the playing surface meets FIFA’s strict international standards required to host competitive matches.

Leading the inspection is Doron Mommsen, a synthetic turf installer from Artificial Grass Africa, who is examining the condition of the pitch ahead of FIFA’s official certification tests.

Mommsen said the visit is aimed at identifying sections of the turf that may require repair or reinforcement before the final evaluation.

Key areas under review include the integrity of the turf fibres, the seams joining different sections of the pitch, and the overall surface consistency.

Experts are also assessing whether additional materials such as industrial-grade glue, seam tape, or extra rubber infill may be needed to improve shock absorption and playing performance.

These adjustments, officials say, are crucial for player safety, ball control, and durability of the surface during high-intensity matches.

The certification process is seen as a major milestone for football development in South Sudan.

If approved, Juba National Stadium would be cleared to host international fixtures and major tournaments, ending years of reliance on venues outside the country.

Sports authorities say the ongoing upgrades reflect broader efforts to improve national sports infrastructure and raise the standard of football.

As technical work continues, anticipation is growing among players, fans, and football administrators.

The coming weeks will be critical in determining whether Juba National Stadium secures FIFA approval and regains its place on the international football stage.
