Members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Parliamentary Caucus have cast a vote of no confidence against Jemma Nunu Kumba in her role as Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA).
The decision, reached during a caucus meeting, reflects a significant loss of trust and support from within her own political bloc, with lawmakers citing corruption and mismanagement in the running of parliamentary affairs.
According to Tulio Odongi, the Chief Whip of the SPLM, the parliamentary caucus has not only recommended the removal of the speaker but also called for the dismissal of the entire parliamentary administration over alleged corruption.
Speaking to Eye Radio, Odongi confirmed that the caucus had formally taken a position, escalating the matter to the party leadership for further action.
“This decision reflects the position of the caucus regarding the leadership of parliament,” he indicated, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction among SPLM lawmakers.
The move is expected to pave the way for the speaker’s position to become vacant, potentially within days, as the party leadership and presidency consider the recommendation.
If implemented, the transition could trigger significant changes in parliamentary leadership, priorities, and procedures.
It remains unclear whether President Salva Kiir Mayardit will act swiftly on the recommendation, but the unfolding situation is being closely watched as a key test of political cohesion within the ruling party.
