Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga has called on South Sudanese citizens to embrace peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation as the foundation for national unity and sustainable development.
Speaking during a thanksgiving and homecoming ceremony held in his honour in Lo’bonok, Central Equatoria State, Dr. Igga urged communities across the country to set aside their differences and work together to rebuild trust and cohesion after years of conflict.
The event, organized to celebrate his reappointment as Vice President in November 2025, drew large crowds including community members, traditional leaders, youth groups, and senior government officials.
The ceremony was marked by vibrant cultural performances and dances showcasing the rich heritage of Lo’bonok Payam.
In his address, Dr. Igga emphasized that reconciliation remains a critical pillar for long-term peace and stability, noting that meaningful development can only be achieved in an environment of unity and mutual understanding.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting peace initiatives and fostering inclusive dialogue across all regions of the country.
“Peace begins with each one of us,” he said, calling on citizens to reject division and instead embrace a shared vision for a prosperous South Sudan.
The Vice President also encouraged leaders at all levels to take an active role in peacebuilding efforts within their communities, stressing that national unity requires collective responsibility.
The ceremony was attended by cabinet ministers, state officials, and representatives from various sectors, reflecting broad support for the message of reconciliation and national healing.
