Peter Lam Both, the former Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), has strongly denied recent media reports claiming that he was poisoned in Juba and is currently receiving medical treatment.
In a statement sent to The Standard Zone via WhatsApp, Lam addressed the rumors, saying, “This serves to inform the general public that I am not poisoned as claimed, nor have I sought permission for medical treatment outside the country as circulated online. These reports are completely false and should be disregarded.”
The rumors stemmed from online report online which claimed a source in Juba revealed that Lam had been poisoned by the regime and was seeking medical transfer. “Fresh information from a reliable insider in Juba indicates that Lam Both Deng, the ex-SPLM secretary, was allegedly poisoned by the Dinka regime,” the report stated.
It further claimed that Lam had requested permission to seek treatment abroad but was denied by the National Security Services, and that his request for a meeting with President Kiir was also turned down.
In response, Lam accused unnamed individuals of orchestrating a political smear campaign against him via social media, urging them to refrain from using these platforms for political advantage.
“Using social media to spread harmful propaganda and incite division for political gains must be avoided at all costs,” he stated.
Lam’s firm denial comes amid growing political tensions and online rumors that continue to swirl around his name.
