In a surprising diplomatic move, the Government of South Sudan has reversed its previous decision regarding Mr. Makula Kintu, a South Sudanese national who was denied entry at Juba International Airport on April 5 and 6, 2025.
This unexpected reversal comes after two days of uncertainty, as Mr. Kintu was left stranded at the airport following his deportation from the United States.
On April 5, Mr. Kintu arrived at Juba International Airport, expecting to return home after being deported by the United States. However, he was met with an abrupt denial of entry by airport authorities, who had been instructed to block his entry without a clear explanation.
This decision raised questions and confusion, as it was unclear why he had been denied entry despite being a South Sudanese citizen.
The situation escalated over the next two days, with the South Sudanese government working quickly to address the issue.
Diplomatic efforts were made, and after a thorough review of Mr. Kintu’s case, the government decided to grant him permission to enter the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement confirming this decision, emphasizing the country’s commitment to upholding friendly relations with the United States and ensuring the rights of South Sudanese nationals abroad.
“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan has decided to grant Mr. Makula Kintu permission to enter the country,” the statement read. “In light of the existing friendly relations between South Sudan and the United States, the government remains committed to facilitating the return of verified South Sudanese nationals.”
The government instructed the relevant authorities at Juba International Airport to facilitate Mr. Kintu’s arrival, ensuring that he could enter South Sudan as soon as possible.
This diplomatic shift highlights the government’s dedication to protecting its citizens and maintaining strong international relationships.
