The Government of South Sudan has officially released the results of the 2025 Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) examinations, with more than 80 percent of candidates passing the national tests administered across the country.
The results were announced on Monday by the Minister of General Education and Instruction, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, following the completion of marking, verification and analysis by the South Sudan National Examinations Council.
According to the ministry, a total of 46,153 candidates registered for the examinations, including 26,768 males and 19,385 females.
Of those registered, 45,776 candidates sat for the examinations, while 377 candidates were recorded absent during the examination period.
The examinations were conducted between 1 and 9 December 2025 in 521 secondary schools across South Sudan.
Official figures released by the ministry show that 36,950 candidates passed the examinations, representing an overall pass rate of 80.7 percent.
Among those who passed were 21,606 male candidates and 15,344 female candidates.
The analysis indicates that male candidates achieved a pass rate of 81 percent, slightly higher than the 79.2 percent recorded among female candidates.
Education officials said the overall performance remains largely consistent with the results recorded in the previous year, suggesting stability in student achievement despite ongoing challenges facing the education sector.
The examinations covered students enrolled in academic, technical and commercial streams, which together form the country’s secondary school certification programme.
The ministry’s performance analysis showed notable improvements in several subjects within the academic section.
Christian Religious Education (CRE), Agriculture and Biology emerged among the best-performing and most improved subjects compared to previous years.
However, officials noted that General Science, Citizenship and Commerce remained among the weakest-performing subjects nationally, highlighting areas where additional support and instructional improvements may be required.
In the technical and commercial streams, students recorded stronger performances in Building, Economics and Commerce, while Mechanical Engineering and Financial Accounting were identified as subjects that posed significant challenges for many candidates.
The results come at a time when South Sudan continues efforts to expand access to education and improve learning outcomes across the country.
Despite years of conflict, economic difficulties and shortages of educational resources, education authorities say schools have continued to operate in many parts of the country, enabling thousands of students to complete their secondary education.
The release of the examination results marks a significant milestone for candidates seeking admission to universities, colleges, teacher training institutes and other institutions of higher learning.
At the same time, the ministry used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to maintaining the integrity of national examinations.
Authorities announced disciplinary action against Nimule Model Secondary School in Eastern Equatoria State after investigators found what they described as serious violations of examination regulations.
The National Examinations Council cancelled the results of 87 candidates from the school and awarded zero marks to 23 candidates linked to the malpractice case.
Officials said the sanctions were necessary to preserve public confidence in the national examination system and ensure fairness for students who sat the examinations in accordance with the rules.
The Ministry of General Education and Instruction urged students, teachers and school administrators to continue upholding academic integrity and to work toward improving educational standards across the country.
Education officials said the government remains committed to strengthening the quality of teaching and learning, improving examination management and expanding opportunities for young people through education.
For thousands of candidates and their families, the release of the 2025 examination results represents the culmination of months of preparation and a crucial step toward further education and future careers.
