President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the full implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement, declaring that peace remains the country’s highest priority.
Speaking before thousands of residents who gathered at Wau Stadium on Friday, President Kiir said his administration remains determined to deliver lasting peace and stability across the country despite ongoing challenges.
The President made the remarks during a visit to Western Bahr el Ghazal State, where he received a warm welcome from citizens who lined the streets of Wau and filled the stadium to hear his address.
Residents from across the state turned out in large numbers, waving national flags, singing patriotic songs, and chanting messages of support as the presidential motorcade passed through the town.
Addressing the crowd, Kiir thanked the people of Western Bahr el Ghazal for their reception and used the occasion to reassure South Sudanese that the implementation of the peace agreement remains firmly on the government’s agenda.
“Despite what you hear, always remember that peace is our top priority,” President Kiir told the gathering.
He emphasized that the government remains committed to implementing the provisions of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), which was signed to end years of conflict and pave the way for national reconciliation, democratic governance, and sustainable development.
The President’s message was received with applause from the crowd, many of whom described peace and stability as essential for economic recovery, improved service delivery, and the return of displaced communities.
The rally was organized by the Government and people of Western Bahr el Ghazal State under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Daniel Sheriff.
Traditional leaders, women groups, youth representatives, community organizations, and local officials attended the event.
The visit was marked by a strong display of national unity, with residents from different communities gathering to welcome the Head of State and express support for peace and stability in the country.
Kiir’s visit to Wau comes at a time when South Sudan continues efforts to implement key provisions of the peace agreement, including political dialogue, security arrangements, and preparations for the country’s democratic transition.
The President reiterated that lasting peace can only be achieved through unity, cooperation, and collective commitment by all South Sudanese, urging citizens to remain steadfast in supporting efforts aimed at preserving stability and advancing national development.
His message underscored the government’s position that the peace process remains the cornerstone of South Sudan’s journey toward lasting security, reconciliation, and prosperity.
