DigiCash, Inkomoko roll out financial inclusion program for small businesses

DigiCash and Inkomoko have launched a new partnership aimed at expanding financial inclusion and increasing access to digital financial services for small businesses and entrepreneurs across South Sudan.

The initiative, unveiled in Juba, seeks to address some of the key challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including limited access to secure financial services, liquidity constraints, and low levels of financial literacy.

Through the partnership, entrepreneurs will be connected to mobile money services, digital payment solutions, and financial education programs designed to help businesses grow and operate more efficiently.

The program will initially focus on entrepreneurs in Juba and Bor, with particular attention given to businesses operating in displacement-affected communities.

The initiative is expected to create greater economic opportunities for both refugee and host-community entrepreneurs while promoting broader financial inclusion in the country.

Speaking during the launch, William Ngabonziza, Managing Director of Inkomoko South Sudan, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to empowering entrepreneurs by improving access to practical and secure financial tools.

He noted that many small business owners continue to face difficulties accessing reliable financial services, limiting their ability to expand operations and manage cash flow effectively.

By integrating digital financial solutions into entrepreneurial support programs, the partnership aims to help businesses overcome these barriers and become more resilient.

“Access to financial services is critical for business growth. Through this collaboration, entrepreneurs will be able to benefit from safer, more convenient ways of managing their finances while also strengthening their financial knowledge and business skills,” Ngabonziza said.

Under the arrangement, DigiCash will provide access to its mobile money platform, enabling entrepreneurs to send and receive payments, transfer funds, and manage transactions directly through their mobile phones.

The company says the platform offers a secure and efficient alternative to cash-based transactions, helping businesses reduce risks associated with carrying and handling physical cash.

De Chan Awuol, Executive Vice President of Digital Holding, said the partnership is designed to leverage technology to support economic development and financial inclusion.

“Through DigiCash mobile money services, entrepreneurs will have access to secure and convenient digital financial solutions that enable them to manage their businesses more effectively,” Awuol said.

“We believe digital finance has the potential to transform the way businesses operate and create greater economic opportunities for communities across South Sudan.”

In addition to digital payment services, participating entrepreneurs will receive financial literacy training aimed at improving their understanding of budgeting, savings, record-keeping, and responsible financial management.

They say these skills are essential for helping small businesses become sustainable and access future growth opportunities.

The partnership builds on Inkomoko’s ongoing efforts to support entrepreneurship and economic empowerment in South Sudan.

Since beginning operations in the country in 2023, the organization says it has supported more than 5,000 entrepreneurs through business training, mentorship, and access to financial resources.

Officials believe the collaboration with DigiCash will further strengthen those efforts by providing entrepreneurs with practical tools to participate in the growing digital economy.

The launch comes as South Sudan continues to explore ways of expanding financial inclusion and increasing access to formal financial services, particularly among underserved communities and small business owners who often face barriers to traditional banking services.

With mobile technology becoming increasingly important in daily commerce, the DigiCash-Inkomoko partnership is expected to help accelerate the adoption of digital financial services while supporting business growth, job creation, and economic resilience.
