SPLM ends week-long conference with new commitments

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has concluded its week-long leadership conference in Juba, adopting a series of commitments aimed at strengthening party unity, advancing the peace process and preparing for South Sudan’s general elections scheduled for December 2026.

The conference brought together senior party leaders from across the country to review the SPLM’s performance in government, assess its internal structures and develop strategies for the party’s future.

Closing the conference, SPLM Chairman and President of the Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit, described the gathering as an important milestone in reinforcing the party’s vision and readiness for the challenges ahead.

President Kiir said the discussions had demonstrated the party’s determination to remain united and focused on delivering peace, stability and development for the people of South Sudan.

He urged party leaders to implement the resolutions adopted during the conference, strengthen party structures at all levels and maintain close engagement with communities across the country.

“The success of this conference is not measured by the discussions we have held, but by our ability to translate these resolutions into action that benefits our people,” President Kiir said.

The SPLM leader also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement, saying lasting peace remains essential for democratic governance and the country’s first post-independence elections.

SPLM Secretary-General James Wani Igga said the conference provided an opportunity for the party to reflect on its achievements, identify areas requiring improvement and agree on practical steps to strengthen its organisation.

He said delegates discussed reforms to improve coordination among party organs, enhance mobilisation at the grassroots and ensure the SPLM is fully prepared for the 2026 elections.

According to the party leadership, the conference concluded with resolutions focusing on party cohesion, institutional strengthening, youth and women’s participation, effective governance and continued support for the implementation of the peace agreement.

The SPLM said it remains committed to promoting national unity, preserving peace and ensuring a credible electoral process as South Sudan moves closer to the December 2026 polls.
