The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Government (SPLM-IG) has sworn in Chief Administrator of Ruweng Administrative Area, Stephano Wieu, as the party’s chairperson in the area.
During a swearing-in ceremony at the SPLM House on Tuesday, the Second Deputy Secretary-General of the SPLM Party, Mary Apayi, urged Wieu to foster social and political unity in Ruweng, emphasizing the importance of promoting peace and delivering essential services to the people.
“I urged you to go to the Ruweng administrative area and then build this political and social cohesion in Ruweng,” she urged.
Apayi “Promote peace, because it cannot come from the air. It comes from the heart of the people. Don’t wait and expect peace to come alone. Nobody will bring you peace. Let your people be happy and give them services.”
Bol Makueng, the SPLM Secretary of Political Affairs, echoed the same sentiments, urging the new SPLM Chairperson to prioritise peace building among the people of region and neighboring communities.
“The first thing you need to do in Ruweng is to build within the community of the Ruweng administrative area, and also with neighbors, so that without a peaceful environment. You would not be able to achieve anything,” Makueng said.
“The second thing is to meet the interests of the people of Ruweng about what they want. We will always be communicating when you come here or when we happen to come to your place,” he added.
The Chief Administrator Wieu promised his administration will focus on security, education, and health sector reform in the area.
“I will focus on physical security of our people, Issues to do with education, and issues to do with health and environment,” Wieu said, highlighting that these are his pillars in the Ruweng Administrative area.
“Protecting our people and sustaining peace to promote social cohesion will top my agenda, then followed by production, because it is the healthy population that produces. That is protected. I think these are clear Reasons that I will move forward,” he added.
“I assure you, I will continue with this so that we build the political cohesion. So that we are united, and this will lead us and take our people forward.”
This month, Ruweng Administrative Area has been experiencing insecurity allegedly involving armed youth from the neighboring Mayom county of Unity State. Following the frequent unrest, President Kiir dismissed his predecessor Tiop Monyluak, resulting in his reappointed as chief administrator on April 4, 2025.
