In the heart of East Africa, where football dreams are born on dusty pitches and nurtured by raw passion, a young star is making waves across borders. His name is Antony Kent Umgbagbia, a gifted winger whose dazzling footwork and blazing speed are capturing attention from South Sudan to the broader East African football scene.

Early Life and Background

Born on November 8, 2004, in Arua District, Uganda, to South Sudanese parents, Kent’s story is one of determination, resilience, and a love for the beautiful game. From the moment he could kick a ball, Kent showed signs of something special.

Youth Career

Antony’s formal football journey kicked off in 2016 with Arua Public School, where his raw talent quickly began to shine. His potential was further nurtured when he joined St. Joseph’s College Ombaci in 2019, a move that provided him the platform to compete and grow at a higher level of school football.

That moment came in 2017, when Kent received a call-up to Uganda’s U-17 national team for the AFCON qualifiers. The invitation to represent Uganda at the continental level was a clear signal that he had the potential to go far.

That same year, he joined the junior side of Onduparaka Football Club, a move that allowed him to train among some of the region’s top young talents. At Onduparaka, he honed his technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical game—quickly rising through the ranks to the senior team, where he played a key role in several competitive matches.

Rise to Prominence

In pursuit of a new challenge and greater exposure, Kent made a strategic move in 2021 to Atlabara Football Club, one of the most competitive clubs in South Sudan. He joined as a junior player but quickly proved his worth, earning a starting spot under the guidance of then head coach Mr. Akun Peter.

Since then, Antony has become a mainstay in the Atlabara starting XI, showcasing his blistering pace, sharp dribbling, and lethal ability in front of goal. His impactful performances did not go unnoticed, as he received a call-up to the South Sudan national team for the 2025 CHAN qualifiers against Rwanda.

Playing Style and Strengths

Antony is a naturally gifted winger who thrives on the flanks, using his speed and close control to torment defenders. His ability to take on players one-on-one, combined with his sense of positioning and finishing, makes him a constant threat in the final third. Coaches and teammates alike praise his work ethic, tactical awareness, and hunger to improve.

A Star in the Making

At just 20 years old, Antony Kent Umgbagbia is a footballer with immense potential and ambition. Passionate about representing South Sudan on the biggest stages, he remains committed to developing his skills and reaching the highest level of the game.

With his feet grounded and eyes on the future, Antony Kent is not just playing football—he’s writing his own legacy.
