Anna Nyakuet leads South Sudan mission to Angola 2025

South Sudan has officially stepped into preparations for the continent’s biggest youth sports festival, with Anna Nyakuet Taker, 2nd Vice President of the South Sudan National Olympic Committee (SSNOC), leading the delegation to Angola.

Nyakuet, who also serves as Chief de Mission for the Games, arrived in Luanda on Thursday, 18 September, ahead of the Chief de Mission (CDM) meetings scheduled from September 19 to 21.

The sessions bring together leaders from all 54 African nations to finalize arrangements on accommodation, transportation, security, and accreditation for their athletes.

The 4th African Youth Games, to be staged in Angola from December 10 to 20, 2025, will mark a historic first for the host nation and will coincide with its 50th independence anniversary.

More than 5,000 athletes aged between 14 and 17 are expected to compete across six cities, Luanda, Benguela, Lubango, Huambo, Mossamedes, and Caxito—in 33 different sporting disciplines.

For South Sudan, the Games represent both opportunity and ambition. They serve as a direct qualifier for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games and as a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent on the continental stage.

“This is more than competition, it’s about unity, pride, and giving our youth the chance to shine,” Nyakuet said ahead of the meetings.

As Angola prepares to welcome Africa’s next generation of champions, South Sudan stands ready to fly its flag high, determined to make its mark in the spirit of resilience and sporting excellence.
