Egypt pledges more scholarships, training support to South Sudan

Egypt has pledged to increase scholarships and training opportunities for South Sudanese students and professionals as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and build national capacity.

The commitment was announced during a farewell meeting in Juba between Egypt’s outgoing Ambassador, Moataz, and South Sudan’s Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth.

Ambassador Moataz said the expanded programmes would focus on equipping South Sudanese with technical knowledge and professional skills in key areas such as governance, management, and technology.

He also emphasized the importance of cooperation on Nile Basin resources, noting that collaboration between Cairo and Juba remains vital for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Minister Makuei commended the ambassador’s four years of service and acknowledged Egypt’s role in supporting South Sudan’s education sector.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepen ties with Cairo and leverage training initiatives to empower citizens and strengthen state institutions.

The expansion of scholarships and training is expected to open new opportunities for young people and professionals, reinforcing education as a cornerstone of the South Sudan–Egypt partnership.
