Floods ravage Payinjiar county, thousands displaced in Unity State

Persistent rains have triggered catastrophic flooding in Payinjiar County, Unity State, submerging entire villages and displacing thousands of residents.

According to the report from the ground, homes, schools, and farmlands have been destroyed, forcing families to flee with nothing but the hope of survival.

Local authorities alleged that many villages are completely cut off, with roads rendered impassable and communication lines down.

The rising waters have swept away livestock and food reserves, plunging the affected population into acute need. Makeshift shelters are overcrowded, and access to clean water is severely limited, local media reported.

“This is a disaster beyond our capacity. People are sleeping in the open, children are sick, and we have no way to reach those trapped in remote areas,” Nyawow Kuot, a resident of payinjiar quoted.

The people of Payinjiar are appealing to the national government, humanitarian partners, and the international community for immediate intervention.

With rains expected to continue, the situation remains dire and without swift action, the crisis could escalate further.
