Heavy rains have forced the closure of the Ganyiel Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) and the nearby women’s center in Panyijiar County, Unity State, displacing patients and halting critical medical services.
The area’s only airstrip has also been flooded, cutting off emergency humanitarian access.
Peter Yoak, the County Health Director, warned that women and children are most at risk as communities lose access to lifesaving care.
“Our health facility, especially Ganyiel PHCC and Ganyiel Women Center, is full of water after the heavy rainfall. The airstrip is also affected,” Yoak was quoted by TRC as saying.
Local residents have tried to drain the water, but their efforts have been overwhelmed by continued heavy rains.
Yoak appealed for urgent support from government and aid partners, calling for generators and equipment to pump out water and restore services.
With health facilities submerged and transport links cut, the community faces rising risks of malaria, waterborne diseases, and malnutrition.
Authorities warn that without immediate intervention, the situation could escalate into a public health emergency.
