Global stakeholders gathered in the Belgian capital for a high-level consultative meeting on Sudan, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen international coordination for peacebuilding and humanitarian response amid the country’s worsening crisis.
The meeting, attended by representatives from the United Nations, African Union, European Union, and IGAD, focused on de-escalating the conflict and improving the delivery of aid to millions affected by the war.
IGAD’s Special Envoy to Sudan, Lawrence Korbandy, who took part in the talks, said discussions emphasized the urgent need for safe and dignified civilian movement, expanded humanitarian corridors, and strict adherence to International Humanitarian Law.
“I participated in the fourth consultative meeting on Sudan held in Brussels, where international partners reviewed strategies to address the unfolding humanitarian disaster and revive peace efforts,” Korbandy stated.
Delegates at the meeting reaffirmed their shared commitment to a unified and principled approach in support of the Sudanese people. The goal is to restore stability, protect civilian lives, and ensure sustained humanitarian access as the conflict continues to escalate, according to IGAD envoy.
The Brussels meeting represents a renewed international effort to mobilize political will, coordinate responses, and alleviate the suffering of those caught in Sudan’s devastating war.
