Five Al Jazeera journalists were killed on Sunday in an Israeli strike near the main gate of Al-Shifa Hospital, the broadcaster said.
The dead include correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa.
The network said they were in a tent used by reporters when the strike occurred.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed it targeted al-Sharif, alleging he led a Hamas cell and coordinated rocket attacks.
The Committee to Protect Journalists called the allegations unsubstantiated and said the strike reflected a pattern of journalists being killed by Israeli forces.
Al Jazeera’s managing editor Mohamed Moawad said the journalists were not reporting from the front lines and accused Israel of attempting to silence coverage from Gaza, where foreign media are barred from entry.
Seven people in total were killed in the strike, according to the broadcaster.
Last month, Al Jazeera, the UN, and the Committee to Protect Journalists warned that reporter Anas al-Sharif’s life was at risk and called for his protection.
The 28-year-old posted on X moments before Sunday’s strike, describing heavy bombardment in Gaza City. Verified videos show bodies being carried from the scene, with colleagues identifying al-Sharif and fellow reporter Mohammed Qreiqeh.
