The Government of South Sudan has denied reports that it is in negotiations with Israel over the possible resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza in the country.
The denial comes after the Associated Press (AP) published a story on Tuesday citing six unnamed sources who claimed discussions were underway to relocate Palestinians from the war-devastated enclave to South Sudan, a nation still recovering from years of internal conflict.
AP reported the alleged plan would involve moving people from Gaza, where civilians face famine risk and ongoing hostilities, to South Sudan as part of an arrangement with Israel.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dismissed the report as “baseless” and clarified that no such talks have taken place.
“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan is not engaged in any discussions with the State of Israel on the resettlement of Palestinian nationals from Gaza,” the ministry said.
The ministry urged media houses to uphold professional standards and verify information through official government channels before publishing stories, particularly on sensitive international matters.
South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, continues to navigate its own post-conflict recovery and humanitarian challenges, with millions still displaced internally and dependent on aid.
Officials say any claims suggesting a deal to host foreign nationals fleeing another conflict are unfounded and misleading.
