A landmark community-led peace initiative concluded in Yei Town on April 11, 2026, as the Kakuwa Community wrapped up a two-day “twin” peace mission with the signing of a comprehensive resolution aimed at strengthening unity, stability, and cooperation across the region.
The mission, held in Yei popularly known as “Small London” brought together youth, elders, community leaders, and representatives from neighboring areas in a concerted effort to address divisions and chart a collective path toward peace.
It combined two key components: a Youth for Peace Conference and the formal introduction of the Kakuwa Community’s executive leadership to grassroots members.
Organizers described the initiative as a strategic platform to empower young people as agents of peace while reinforcing trust between leadership structures and the wider community.
Throughout the conference, participants engaged in dialogue focused on reconciliation, coexistence, and practical steps to improve livelihoods amid ongoing socio-economic challenges.

The event was officially closed on behalf of the Governor of Central Equatoria State by the Commissioner of Yei River County, who commended the initiative as timely and impactful.
The Governor’s representative encouraged the community to institutionalize the conference as an annual event and recommended that future editions rotate across Yei, Morobo, and Lainya counties to broaden outreach and inclusivity.
