President Salva Kiir on Monday held discussions with the King of the Collo Kingdom, Kuongo Dak Padiet, focusing on national unity, stability, and preparations for the country’s upcoming elections.
The meeting brought together the Head of State and the traditional leader in Juba, where both leaders exchanged views on the political and security situation in the country, as well as the broader process toward democratic transition.
During the talks, King Kuongo Dak Padiet expressed his support for the planned elections, describing them as a key step toward strengthening governance and national cohesion.
He also offered his blessing to President Kiir, encouraging leadership that would guide the country toward a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The King further briefed President Kiir on his intention to return to the Collo Kingdom following a medical trip abroad.
He said he plans to engage communities across Upper Nile State upon his return, with a focus on promoting unity, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence among local populations.
President Kiir, in response, underscored the importance of unity and collective responsibility in advancing national interests.
He noted that the country’s progress depends on cooperation among all leaders and communities, warning against unilateral actions that could undermine national cohesion.
The President called on stakeholders at all levels to prioritize dialogue, inclusivity, and shared commitment to peace as the nation moves closer to elections.
He emphasized that maintaining stability remains essential for a successful democratic process.
In a gesture of respect, President Kiir also instructed those accompanying the King to ensure his well-being, describing him as a respected national figure whose health and welfare remain of importance.
The meeting is part of ongoing consultations between the presidency and traditional leaders aimed at strengthening unity and fostering peaceful political participation ahead of the anticipated polls.
