Kiir orders Abiemnhom probe, pushes service cluster reforms

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed government institutions to strengthen coordination and address operational challenges affecting ministries under the Service Cluster, while also ordering an investigation into the recent violence in Abiemnhom County of the Ruweng Administrative Area.

The directives followed a briefing at the State House by Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, who oversees the Service Cluster.

During the meeting, the Vice President outlined several operational constraints facing institutions within the cluster, including coordination gaps and resource limitations that have affected the delivery of public services.

After receiving the report, President Kiir instructed the Vice President to work closely with relevant government bodies to address the challenges and ensure that services continue to function effectively across the country.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Vice President Abdelbagi said the cluster leadership will intensify collaboration among ministries and agencies to resolve the issues and improve service delivery.

“We will engage all institutions under the Service Cluster and strengthen coordination mechanisms to ensure that government services reach citizens effectively,” he said.

The meeting also discussed preparations for an inter-party dialogue aimed at fostering political consensus ahead of South Sudan’s general elections scheduled for December this year.

Meanwhile, Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs Tut Gatluak Manime briefed the President on the recent security incident in Abiemnhom County, noting that the situation is gradually stabilizing as authorities step up efforts to restore calm.

President Kiir announced plans to establish a select committee to investigate what he described as a “cruel incident” in the area, with the aim of identifying the root causes of the violence and ensuring accountability for those responsible.

He further directed relevant government agencies to coordinate with humanitarian partners to ensure that urgent assistance reaches communities affected by the violence.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore stability in the area while providing relief support to displaced families and other victims of the recent clashes.
