President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed a comprehensive review of the government’s power purchase agreement with Ezra Construction and Development Group to ensure it aligns with South Sudan’s electricity policy.
The directive follows a report presented to the President by the Power Purchase Review Agreement Committee, chaired by Engineer Madhieu Acuil Mawien, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Energy and Dams.
The committee was tasked with examining the terms and conditions of the agreement, including the equity structure, shareholding entitlements, and the ownership of the Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO).
In its findings, the committee recommended lowering electricity tariffs, restructuring JEDCO’s power distribution framework, and strengthening collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Dams.
The aim, it said, is to safeguard national interests while ensuring a sustainable and affordable electricity supply across the Ten States and Three Administrative Areas.
“The committee’s mandate is to consult with all parties to guarantee reliable and affordable power for the people of South Sudan,” Engineer Madhieu told reporters.
The Ministry of Energy and Dams continues to play a central role in overseeing electricity generation, transmission, and distribution as the government seeks to expand access to power nationwide.
