Kiir relieves Daniel Abocha Ali, appoints Puok Bol Par as SPLM youth league chair

President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), has appointed Comrade Puok Bol Par as the new Chairperson of the SPLM Youth League, relieving Daniel Abocha Ali of the position.

The appointment was announced in an official directive issued from the SPLM General Headquarters in Juba on January 7, 2026, under reference number SPLM/CO/J/02/2026.

The decision was made in accordance with Articles 26(1)(i) and 12(2) of the SPLM Constitution of 2008, as amended, which empower the party chairperson to make senior organizational appointments.

In the appointment order, President Kiir formally confirmed Puok Bol Par as the new head of the SPLM Youth League, a key organ of the ruling party tasked with mobilizing, organizing, and representing youth within the SPLM structures nationwide.

The directive, issued under the hand and seal of the SPLM Party, marks a leadership change within the Youth League at a time when the party continues to reorganize its internal structures amid ongoing political and governance challenges in South Sudan.

No official reason was provided for the removal of Daniel Abocha Ali, nor were immediate details given regarding the priorities or mandate of the newly appointed Youth League chairperson.

The SPLM Youth League plays a significant role in party outreach, political mobilization, and engagement with young people across the country, making the appointment of its leadership a strategically important decision within the party hierarchy.
