South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for a new generation of leaders to step forward while honoring the legacy of the country’s founders.

Speaking at SPLM headquarters during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed party deputies, Kiir emphasized unity and service.

“I am proud to officially welcome a new generation of leadership, the new appointed first deputy, second deputy, and the third Deputy chairpersons of the SPLM are all from new generation,” Kiir said.

Dr. Bol Mel now serves as the immediate deputy to President Kiir, followed by Apai and Puoch. Welcoming the transition, Kiir expressed pride in the newly appointed leaders.

“I am proud to officially welcome a new generation of leadership,” he stated, acknowledging the difficulties of change while urging party members to focus on unity rather than division.

“As these leaders are stepping into roles once held by our founding comrades, the liberation leaders who carried the mission, vision of SPLM through the darkest time, we thank our comrades” he added.

President Kiir’s speech, seemingly startles some party’s cadres, who might struggle with understanding what is truly transpiring as Bol approaching the political peak.

Kiir, however, full of wisdom, further said, “Transitions can be difficult, change can bring division, but I ask you all: do not let this moment divide us. Let it unite us instead.”

Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, newly appointed as SPLM First Deputy Chairperson, reaffirmed his commitment to leadership and service, saying, “Every step I have taken prepared me for this moment. My colleagues and I ask for your support, let us walk this path together.”

With the leadership transition now underway, SPLM moves forward with a renewed focus on unity, service, and commitment to the people of South Sudan.
