Police in Kuajok Town have arrested more than 173 suspected criminals during an overnight security operation aimed at curbing rising crime and restoring public safety in the municipality.
The operation, conducted late at night, was led by the newly appointed Kuajok Town Mayor, Atek Lual Achuil, in close coordination with state police and other security organs.
Authorities said the targeted patrol focused on areas in and around Kuajok Market, where traders and residents have repeatedly reported thefts and assaults occurring while people are asleep.
According to police officials, the suspects are accused of stealing goods from traders and attacking residents during nighttime hours.
Many of those arrested are reportedly teenagers, a trend authorities say reflects the growing involvement of youths in criminal activities in the town.
Mayor Atek Lual Achuil said the crackdown is part of a broader effort by the municipal authorities to dismantle criminal gangs and strengthen law and order in Kuajok.
He warned that criminal behavior will not be tolerated under his administration and pledged continued collaboration with security forces to ensure residents feel safe.
“This operation sends a clear message that crime has no place in Kuajok,” the mayor said, urging youths to refrain from illegal activities and seek lawful means of earning a living.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects were arrested during late-night hours when the market and surrounding areas were largely deserted, minimizing risk to the public.
They said screening and investigations are underway to establish individual responsibility, with those found culpable to be charged in accordance with the law, while minors will be handled under juvenile justice procedures.
The mayor also called on residents and business owners to work closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities.
He emphasized that community cooperation is essential for sustaining peace and preventing crime.
The overnight operation is part of ongoing security measures being rolled out in Kuajok Town, as authorities seek to reassure residents and traders amid concerns over theft, gang activity, and nighttime insecurity.
