South Sudan’s Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, officially wedded his longtime private secretary, Ms. Nyaruot Kur Yay, in a colorful ceremony at Freedom Hall on Saturday.

The high-profile wedding came just months after the pair held a traditional Luom Nyiet ceremony in May, hosted at the residence of Vice President Taban Deng Gai, a nod to both love and cultural heritage.

Saturday’s wedding was anything but low-key. The guest list sparkled with high-ranking politicians, diplomats, and top officials.

Vice President for Service Cluster, Josephine Lagu, officiated the union and praised it as a “symbol of love beyond tribal lines.”

“This marriage reflects what South Sudan needs,” VP Lagu said.

The couple’s journey from office desks to altar drew both admiration and whispers, after all, how often does a minister marry his secretary under flashing lights and cameras?

Though the timing raised eyebrows, with citizens facing harsh economic realities, from unpaid wages to rising market prices, the celebration offered a rare glimpse of joy in the capital.

Critics may frown, but for one night, Freedom Hall was alive with dancing, laughter, and a reminder that even in tough times, love still has its moment.
