A fresh chapter in the story of women’s empowerment has begun in Twic East County with the election and swearing-in of Ahou Abit Ruth Muka as the new Chairlady of Nyiir Cit Arialbek (NCA) — a milestone that many say heralds a new era of inclusive leadership, ambition, and change.
Her election, held amid high anticipation and attended by community leaders, youth representatives, and members of the diaspora, has been widely hailed as a watershed moment — one that not only redefines leadership in the community but also expands the possibilities for women’s participation in decision-making.
“Yesterday, history was not merely witnessed — it was made,” Chairlady Muka declared in her inaugural address. “I accept this responsibility not as a privilege, but as a calling to serve with integrity, dedication, and a vision that uplifts our people.”
Ahou’s ascent to leadership represents more than just a change of guard — it is a testament to the growing recognition of women’s capabilities and leadership potential in a society where such roles were once almost exclusively male.
She follows in the footsteps of Hon. Adut Mamer Ayach, the first woman to lead the association, whose legacy includes securing land for NCA, launching the organization’s official uniform, and laying the groundwork for greater unity and identity among members.
“You laid the foundation upon which we now stand,” Muka said, paying tribute to her predecessor. “I pledge to build upon it with renewed energy, ensuring that the seeds you planted continue to bear fruit.”
Chairlady Muka’s leadership vision is built on four strategic pillars — a comprehensive plan designed to uplift women and girls across Twic East and beyond:
Education and Talent Development – Increasing access to scholarships, mentorship, and vocational training for girls from underprivileged backgrounds.
Entrepreneurship and Economic Empowerment – Supporting women-led businesses and fostering financial independence through skills training and resource mobilization.
Health and Wellbeing – Promoting awareness of mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and overall wellness.
Cultural Preservation and Social Cohesion – Safeguarding traditional values while promoting unity, identity, and inclusion across generations.
“Our empowerment agenda will ensure that every girl in our community has the chance to learn, grow, and lead,” Muka emphasized. “When women rise, communities thrive.”
Despite the competitiveness of the election, Chairlady Muka extended an olive branch to her fellow contenders, praising their courage and commitment to the cause.
“True leadership is about grace in competition and honor in unity,” she noted. “Our journey forward must be collective rooted in sisterhood, solidarity, and shared purpose.”
The swearing-in ceremony, graced by Dr. Majak D’Agoot Atem as Guest of Honor, drew a distinguished audience from across South Sudan and the diaspora, including representatives from Twic East communities in Europe, Australia, Bor, Mangalla, Gulyar, and Nimule.
Muka’s vision extends beyond NCA’s internal programs. She pledged to strengthen partnerships with like-minded organizations, including BCYA, Nyiir Lowai, DCYA, and the Duk Flower Girls, to accelerate youth and women’s empowerment.
She also acknowledged the vital role of media, artists, and community influencers in amplifying women’s voices and promoting social transformation.
“Together, we will transcend boundaries, nurture harmony, and build bridges of understanding and cooperation across Jonglei State and beyond,” she said.
As she embarks on her leadership journey, Chairlady Muka issued a rallying call to all members and partners to unite behind a shared vision for progress.
“Let us march forward not as individuals, but as one people bound by common purpose,” she urged. “May Nyiir Cit Arialbek continue to be a beacon of hope, inspiration, and transformation for generations to come.”
