President Salva Kiir Mayardit has assured the United Nations and humanitarian partners of unrestricted access to all areas in South Sudan, pledging support for aid delivery to communities affected by conflict and displacement.
Speaking during a high-level meeting with UN officials in Juba, President Kiir emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating humanitarian operations and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
“We are committed to ensuring that humanitarian actors can operate freely and reach those in need, regardless of location or political affiliation,” he said.
UN representatives welcomed the assurance, highlighting the importance of cooperation in addressing food insecurity, health crises, and displacement challenges across the country.
“Access is critical to saving lives,” said a senior UN humanitarian coordinator.
The President also called on local authorities and communities to collaborate with aid agencies, underlining that “humanitarian work must remain neutral and impartial for the safety and well-being of all citizens.”
This comes amid ongoing efforts by the UN and international partners to scale up relief operations in conflict-affected regions, including Greater Upper Nile and parts of Equatoria, where access has previously been limited due to security concerns.
