President Kiir returns to Juba after week-long tour of Bahr el Ghazal region

President Salva Kiir Mayardit returned to Juba on Friday after completing a week-long visit to the Bahr el Ghazal region, where he held public rallies and engaged with communities in an effort to promote peace, economic recovery, and preparations for South Sudan’s planned general elections.

During the tour, President Kiir visited the towns of Wau, Kuajok, and Aweil, where he addressed large gatherings and urged citizens to maintain peace and unity as the country prepares for elections scheduled for December.

He also encouraged communities to increase agricultural production, emphasizing farming as a key pillar for improving food security and strengthening household livelihoods.

At each stop, the President reiterated the government’s commitment to stability and development, calling on citizens to support efforts aimed at fostering national cohesion and economic growth.

He stressed that peace remains essential for the successful implementation of development programs and the conduct of credible elections.

Upon his arrival at Juba International Airport, President Kiir was received by Vice President for the Economic Cluster Dr. James Wani Igga, alongside senior government officials and members of the presidency.

The Office of the President described the visit as peaceful and productive, noting that the tour provided an opportunity for direct engagement between the country’s leadership and local communities across the region.

According to the presidency, discussions focused on national priorities, including peacebuilding, agricultural development, and civic participation ahead of the anticipated polls.

The presidency also expressed appreciation to state authorities, security agencies, community leaders, and residents who contributed to the success of the visit.

It commended officials who participated in the tour for their commitment to public service and their efforts in ensuring the smooth implementation of the President’s engagements.

The week-long trip forms part of broader government outreach efforts aimed at strengthening ties with communities across the country and mobilizing public support for peace, development, and democratic processes.
