
South Sudan’s Kajo Keji County on Monday hosted senior representatives from the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and the Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM) in a mission aimed at resolving ongoing border tensions with Uganda and promoting lasting peace.
The visit comes after a recent border clash in Nyaigamuda, Bori Boma, Kangapo II Payam left four people dead and displaced thousands of residents.
The regional mission highlights the urgent need for dialogue, security coordination, and community reconciliation.
ICGLR, comprising 12 member states, works to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Great Lakes Region.
EJVM, established in 2012, monitors and investigates security incidents along the South Sudan-Uganda border and other regional hotspots.
Together, the bodies aim to prevent escalation and facilitate conflict resolution through structured engagement.
Before proceeding to the disputed areas, a high-level briefing was held at First Baptist Church, Kajo Keji, bringing together:
ICGLR and EJVM representatives from Zambia, South Africa, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, and Uganda
Commissioner Wani Jackson Mule, Brigade Commander of Kajo Keji Garrison, Brigadier General Buri Henry, Senior County security and administrative officials, including Police, Prisons, Wildlife, and National Security leaders and Local leaders, including religious figures, Boma and clan chiefs, and landlords.
The session highlighted both official concern and a shared determination to use dialogue and cooperation to ease tensions and secure safety for border communities.
The ICGLR and EJVM mission signals a renewed regional commitment to fostering trust, preventing further displacement, and ensuring that border disputes are resolved through peaceful, coordinated action.
