South Sudan has paid tribute to the late Ruben Marial Benjamin following his untimely passing, with President Salva Kiir Mayardit describing him as a committed patriot who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday, President Kiir said the death of Ambassador Ruben Marial Benjamin was a painful loss not only to his family and colleagues, but to the entire country.
The President praised the late diplomat for his role during some of the most important moments in South Sudan’s history, including witnessing the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005, which eventually paved the way for the independence of South Sudan in 2011.
President Kiir said Ambassador Ruben Marial belonged to a generation of South Sudanese patriots who remained committed to the struggle for self-determination and later contributed to the building of state institutions after independence.
The late ambassador served South Sudan in several diplomatic assignments abroad, including in Washington, D.C. and Cairo, before becoming the country’s first ambassador to Israel.
According to the President, he carried out his duties with dignity, discipline, and loyalty to the nation.
Kiir noted that despite his achievements and years of public service, Ambassador Ruben Marial still had much to offer the country through his experience, wisdom, and dedication to national service.
“His passing at such a young age is a painful and untimely loss for our nation,” the President said in the message.
The President added that although the country has lost a respected diplomat and public servant, his legacy of patriotism and commitment to South Sudan will continue to be remembered.
He also extended condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the late ambassador, urging the nation to keep them in prayers during the difficult period of mourning.
President Kiir concluded the message by praying for the eternal peace of the late diplomat and strength for all those affected by the loss.
