Political collaboration in South Sudan intensified this week as leaders from the SSOA and SPLM held back-to-back high-level meetings to strengthen national unity and prepare for the 2026 elections.
The Presidential Advisor and Chairman of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM), Dr. Costello Garang Riiny Lual, led the outreach, beginning with an official visit to the Vice President for the Economic Cluster, Prof. James Wani Igga. He was accompanied by SSOA Spokesperson and SSNMC Chairperson, Moro Genesio.
During the meeting, Dr. Costello congratulated Vice President Igga on his renewed appointment, wishing him success in his continued national service.
The discussions centered on the need to strengthen coordination among national institutions and political actors as part of South Sudan’s broader agenda for lasting peace, institutional reform, and economic recovery.
Moro reiterated SSOA’s commitment to constructive political engagement, saying inclusive dialogue remains crucial to stabilizing the country and building resilient national institutions.
He stressed that all political forces must work in partnership to advance the peace roadmap and unify the country’s direction as the transitional period nears its end.
In a separate engagement the following day, Dr. Costello and Moro met with SPLM Secretary-General, Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, at the SPLM Secretariat.
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between SSOA and the ruling party, strengthening joint political action, and broadening national consensus.
Both sides agreed that enhanced collaboration is a “national necessity,” especially as South Sudan prepares for the 2026 elections and moves toward a new phase of political transition.
Dr. Akol welcomed the outreach, emphasizing the SPLM’s openness to dialogue with all political stakeholders to secure peace, unity, and democratic progress.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Moro highlighted the importance of collective leadership at this critical time, noting that “the aspirations of the people of South Sudan can only be achieved through shared vision and coordinated efforts.”
The back-to-back engagements mark a significant push by SSOA and SPLM leaders to reinforce political cooperation, promote national cohesion, and prepare the foundation for a peaceful and credible electoral process.
