
Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, South Sudan’s army spokesperson has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that he has been relieved of his duties or placed under arrest.
In a brief statement issued for immediate release and addressed to the rank and file as well as the general public, Maj. Gen. Koang clarified that he remains fully in office and continues to carry out his official responsibilities without any interruption.
“This brief statement serves to inform the rank and file and the public that I am neither relieved of my duties nor arrested,” the statement read, directly countering the viral claims that have circulated across various online platforms.
Maj. Gen. Koang strongly urged the public to disregard the messages being shared on social media, stressing that the reports are not only false but are intentionally aimed at misleading the public and undermining peace efforts.
He further warned that the spread of such disinformation poses a risk to public trust and stability, particularly at a time when accurate communication is essential.
The senior military officer emphasized the importance of relying solely on verified and official sources for information concerning security institutions and national affairs.
The clarification comes amid growing concern over the rapid spread of unverified information online, with authorities repeatedly cautioning the public against consuming or sharing unconfirmed reports.
Maj. Gen. Koang reaffirmed his commitment to duty and called on citizens to remain vigilant against misinformation, urging responsible use of social media in the interest of peace, unity, and national stability.
