Youth leader says 16 requests to meet President Kiir not approved

The Chairperson of the South Sudan National Youth Union, Taban Paride Lokasmoi, has expressed frustration over delays in securing a meeting with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The youth leader revealed that all sixteen of his requests to meet the president remain unanswered.

Paride said mounting pressure from young people across the country has made it increasingly difficult for him to rest, as they continue to demand progress on their planned activities.

“The youth of this country are not making me to sleep. They want their activities running. They have asked me to meet with the President and present their plans to him. They believe President Salva Kiir Mayardit can turn their plans into reality,” Taban Paride Lokasmoi, Chairperson of the South Sudan National Youth Union, told Eye Radio.

He noted that many youths believe the President has the ability to turn their proposals into reality, hence their insistence on direct engagement.

“However, it is very frustrating and unfortunate that I have written sixteen letters to date. I have written 16 letters to the presidency, requesting a meeting with His Excellency General Salva Kiir Mayardit to present their concerns. These letters are for accountability, so you know I am not remaining silent,” he added.

Paride, however, described the situation as frustrating, saying his repeated attempts to reach the presidency have gone unanswered.

He explained that the letters were also meant to serve as a record of accountability, demonstrating that he has been actively pursuing dialogue even as youth groups continue to push their agendas independently.

He emphasized the need for urgent engagement with the presidency to address the concerns and aspirations of young people, warning that continued delays could further heighten frustration among the youth.
