Youth movement “Sout Al Shaab” launches for nonviolent civic change

A new youth-led movement, Sout Al Shaab (Voice of the People), has officially launched with a bold mission to reshape civic participation in South Sudan through nonviolent action and citizen empowerment.

Unveiled in a public press statement attended by media, community leaders and members of the public, the initiative positions itself as a non-partisan platform dedicated to strengthening democratic engagement, influencing public policy, and amplifying the voices of ordinary citizens.

Sout Al Shaab aims to mobilize communities across the country to champion justice, equal rights, and inclusive governance while promoting peaceful tools of change ranging from civic education and public debates to mediation, lawful civil actions, and grassroots peacebuilding.

Organizers say the movement emerges at a time when South Sudan faces multiple human-made challenges, underscoring the urgent need for constructive, citizen-driven solutions.

Rooted in the belief that sustainable peace requires informed and engaged citizens, the founders call on all South Sudanese to join the effort.

“Our motherland thirsts for constructive, peaceful engagement,” the movement’s statement reads. “Dear Shaab, be a voice anywhere and everywhere. Together, we will make nonviolence a new normal for current and future generations.”
