Kawaja, Sawat wins historic medals for South Sudan

South Sudan’s athletes Abur Kawaja and Samuel Sawat scooped historic medals at the Eastern Africa U18 & U20 Championships held in Zanzibar.

Athlete Abur Kawaja won silver medal in the 100m, his first-ever medal for the country at regional stage.

While Samuel Sawat earned bronze medal in 800m after finishing third in the same competition.

The two young sprinters, Kawaja and Sawat, etched their names in history by winning their first-ever medals in their respective races at the regional level.

Competing against some of the fastest young athletes from across Eastern Africa, Kawaja and Sawat demonstrated outstanding speed, determination, and composure under pressure.

Their success is seen as a major breakthrough for South Sudan’s growing presence in international athletics, particularly in the sprinting disciplines.

The two sprinters were part of a team of eight South Sudanese athletes who competed in the prestigious event.
